Finding Niche Business Ideas when you’re just starting out can be rather daunting. In fact, how do you know where to start? You could buy one of pieces of niche finding software that are out there but they don’t really do the actual Niche Business Ideas, rather keywords related to A Niche market.
To Find Niche business ideas, you need to know what people actually need and/or want. A good place to start your search is Yahoo Answers, Wikihelp or any online forum. Having an idea of which niche interests you is a good starting point or you will be completely overwhelmed.
This is what you need to do:
- Find a need and an answer to it
- Look at top ranked competitors and see what products they’re selling
I put “beauty tips” + forum into Google and visited the first forum on the list. The majority of problems and questions were to do with hair care; improving thin hair, making hair grow thicker and faster, shampoo to maintain hair colour, changing hair colour. There were also a lot of questions about skin care; natural cleansers, maintaining healthy skin, anti-aging, best eye creams and coverage for under eye circles.
So, here we have needs. Now we also need to know what expressions people are using to search the internet. I used a keyword tool and inserted “improving thin hair” which returned zero searches but “vitamins for thinning hair” had 3,600 global searches, “thinning hair treatment” had 6,600 and “remedies for thinning hair” had 4,400. These are all good numbers – not too high which would mean too much competition and not too few.
According to my favourite keyword tool, “vitamins for thinning hair” has 379 competing pages in Google. Anything less than 500 is great, both for marketing your website and using article marketing to attract traffic.
So let’s see what our competitors for that keyword are selling. The first site listed for “vitamins for thinning hair” was selling a fish oil supplement and the second gave a huge amount of information and was selling an ebook about techniques for regrowing hair and preventing hair loss as well as a laser comb which is said to promote hair regrowth. You could create a website incorporating any or all these products.
Niche business ideas aren’t that hard to find but you definitely need to set aside time to do research using all the facilities available on the internet
