Niche Marketers
What type of website should I create?
I really want to start an online business that will make me 6 or more figures a year. However, I am not sure what type of site would be best for an online business. Some choices I have are….
1. A Niche content site with lots of content. I make money from ads and affiliate marketing. Could this online Business Idea make me six or more figures a year?
2. A auction/marketplace site where users can trade, buy, or sell gift cards for cash. I make money from charging a small fee if the sale is successful.
Any other website ideas for my online business, or should I stick with one of the ideas above? Could any of those online Business Ideas make me six or more figures a year? I hear some affiliate marketers are making millions a year! Thanks!
I like your second idea. New and original. At least I have not heard of it.
Your first idea would be good if you stick with a niche but dump the lots of content. I am not sure what you want to sell as your niche but remember sites that sell lots of content like walmart or target will drive you in the dirt as far as advertisements go and getting your site in the top 100 of web searches would cost you a lot of time and money. I know this from my own experience. I had a great website that could compete price wise with walmart and target but I could not get any Traffic through the site. I actually got up to a rank of 12 on yahoo but still got no traffic. Luckily I only spent about $500 total so the lose was not bad but it made me realize that having a niche and specializing in that is key, not selling a thousand different types of product
As far as salary, just start small. Initially you will not get jack. IT takes time to get your site recognized by search engines. then it takes time to get your site ranked well in those search engines. Look at 6 months to 2 years before you can start getting regular traffic to your site. So its best to start it as a second source of income, give it time to grow, start making money, then allowing it to be your main money maker.
Web businesses are not easy anymore because there are so freaking many of them. Think about it when you look for something on the website. If you are looking for a TV would you research best buy, walmart, or Fry’s or would you buy from joeblow.com that offers the same price without the guarantee that the big boys can offer.
